NEW - Building Standards fees have changed from Monday 1st April 2024

Building Standards fees in Scotland have changed. We are currently working on updating our fee calculator to reflect these changes and will complete this in the coming weeks. We ask all user to use the BStds Fees List (April 2024) to calculate your fee instead of the Fee Calculator until it is updated.

HELP - How can I ensure that I get my Building Standards application right the first time?

The Scottish Government's Building Standards Division has produced helpful guidance on what you need to know to make a quality Building Warrant application. This includes checklists of what you should consider and what information that you should include when submitting your application. Following this guide will help you to give your authority all the information that it needs to assess your application first time, and can greatly reduce the risk of delays.

 

SERVICE ISSUE - Issue identified if using the site and paying online with a MacOS Device

An issue has been reported for some users accessing the eDevelopment service with a Chrome browser on a MacBook. When paying by credit/debit card, you may encounter a "Comms Error" preventing payment. This appears to be a bug with the Chrome Browser on MacOS. 

If this is affecting you, we would recommend that you use a different browser (e.g. Safari) or device (e.g. PC) to make your payment.


What is eBuildingStandards?

 

eBuildingStandards is a free service that is managed by the Scottish Government in partnership with all Scottish Local Authorities. To use the portal (and that of its sister ePlanning portal) you will need to create an account.

The eBuildingStandards portal allows you to complete and submit Building Warrant applications, Completion Certificates and other related forms associated with the end to end process of the building standards system. You can also upload documentation you have to support your application, buy and mark up a location plan (if you don't have one), and select from several payment options - all online and from the comfort of your own home or office.

 

How can I get started?

 

You will need an account to get started. To create your account click on the 'Create an Account' button in the top left of this page.

Once you have created your account and logged in, the first step is to create a proposal for your application. This is a simple process involving:

  • Selecting the proposed site location;
  • Giving your proposal a name; 
  • Selecting which application, review or appeal forms you want to submit (e.g. building warrant, completion certificate, etc.); and  
  • Sharing your proposal and application with anyone else who requires access (e.g. colleagues in your organisation, etc.).

Once you've done this, the next step is to start filling out your application form online.

Help is available by clicking on the help icons located throughout the site.

The Support tab in the top right hand corner of the site has user guides to assist you should you require it. 

 

Why should I use the eBuildingStandards portal?

 

Sending in your applications electronically is the most effective method for submitting them. Why? 

  • Applications can be processed faster if they're digital meaning that decisions can also be made faster.
  • You can easily download a copy of their application and receive a confirmation email when its been submitted.
  • You can pay your Authority directly for your application.
  • Professional users can register an organisation for their company, which allows all users within the organisation to access, view and edit each users proposal within the organisation.
  • You can easily upload documents online with your application.
  • Users can share access with each other so that each can contribute to filling in an application.
  • Agents can allow clients to view the application and if they want, send it in and pay for the completed application.

     

Can I still make an application using paper forms if I want to?

 

Yes, if you wish to use the paper forms for your application, you can access them .

However, please note that under the current circumstances, many authorities are working remotely and are steering applicants to submitting their applications online. If you still wish to submit a paper application to your authority through the post, there will likely be a delay in your local authority processing it compared to submitting it electronically.
